SAC FCU Announces New Headquarters
SAC Federal Credit Union, Nebraska's largest credit union, today announced the location and design of its new corporate headquarters at the southeast corner of 72nd Street and US Highway 370 in Papillion, Nebraska. The property sits adjacent to the Shadow Lake Shopping Center and numerous other retail developments. Total construction and land purchase costs are estimated to be $20 million.
SAC Federal Credit Union has purchased approximately five acres at the site and has signed a purchase agreement with the City of Papillion for approximately 5 additional acres. The purchase agreement is pending Papillion City Council approval. Planning for the new facility began in mid-2010, board approval for land purchase negotiation was attained in mid-2011. A thorough site selection process, including sites throughout SAC's field of membership counties, was conducted and final selection was made in late 2011.
Negotiations for the proposed location have been ongoing since November, "This site meets our current and our projected growth while also giving us tremendous visibility," stated Gail DeBoer, President and CEO, of SAC Federal Credit Union. The new corporate headquarters will stand four stories tall and contain 90,000 square feet. The facility will include a first-floor branch with both drive-up and external ATM options. The building will allow for the consolidation of all corporate departments, which are now dispersed throughout the metro-area. The building's design will accommodate the projected growth for the next 20 to 30 years.
The structure will boast natural lighting and fresh air with open work areas and floor plans. SAC Federal Credit Union has always been known for its close culture and collaborative work environment. The building's design will facilitate the continuance of those characteristics.
Initially, the building will house 150 of SAC's employees when SAC FCU takes occupancy sometime in 2014. True to the credit union mission of community partnerships, SAC FCU has also incorporated a community meeting room in the plans. The room will be available to SAC Federal Credit Union members and SAC's partner community agencies and organizations.
SAC's current headquarters, located at Highway 370 and 39th Streets in Bellevue, has served as the headquarters since 1980. Since 2006, SAC has grown from $294 million in assets to over $575 million. The growth, spurred by an aggressive strategic vision, forced the credit union to transform storage areas to office spaces and move some functions to leased spaces.
"Having all of our corporate functions in one area will reduce our overall costs and improve our internal communications and member services," stated DeBoer. "That was our primary objective for the new building, to bring those teams all back under one roof."
SAC FCU operates at 19 locations in Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, Washington and Saunders Counties in Nebraska and Pottawattamie, Harrison, and Mills Counties in Iowa. Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in these counties can join the nearly 70,000 members of SAC Federal Credit Union. Two new additional branches are planned for 2012. The first will open in Blair, Nebraska this summer with a second to be added later in the year.
In 1946, SAC Federal Credit Union was established as the credit union for the Strategic Air Command at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. SAC FCU relocated to Offutt Air Force Base in 1948 along with the Strategic Air Command unit. In 1993, SAC FCU expanded its charter to become a community credit union and opened its doors to anyone living, working, worshiping or going to school in the counties it served. Last year, SAC Federal Credit Union expanded again by adding four additional counties: two each in Iowa and Nebraska.
